Rahul Bhatt Reflects on His Estranged Relationship with His Father and the Trials of Growing Up in a Film Family

Rahul Bhatt, the son of renowned director Mahesh Bhatt and his first wife Kiran Bhatt, has gained attention after discussing his complicated relationship with his half-sister Alia Bhatt. In a recent interview, he opened up about his emotionally distant bond with his father, shedding light on the unique challenges he faced growing up within a famous film family.

In a conversation with Hindi Rush, Rahul candidly shared insights about his upbringing, emphasizing a profound lack of connection with Mahesh Bhatt. Despite his father’s financial support, Rahul expressed that emotional presence was lacking throughout his formative years. He stated, “He was financially available, but emotionally, we are different people. Even while growing up, we did not have that kind of a connection, and I had to deal with a lot of things by myself. I had to be my doctor, lawyer, and therapist. Nobody came to my aid.”

Rahul further elaborated on the loneliness he experienced as a child, revealing the impact of his parents’ separation. He faced bullying from peers, which fueled feelings of anger and isolation. Although he noted that his anger has lessened over time, the emotional scars linger. He expressed that his experiences have often left him feeling like an outsider, struggling to find genuine connections even in familiar circles.

Choosing a path distinct from his family’s legacy, Rahul distanced himself from the film industry, citing a culture that often demands individuals to compromise their values. He affirmed that he has never been inclined to make such sacrifices. The allure of the movie world, according to Rahul, can lead to emotional voids among its players. In contrast, he credits his dedication to fitness with providing him stability during tumultuous times, attributing his commitment to it as a crucial factor in steering clear of destructive behaviors.

Mahesh Bhatt’s first marriage to Kiran Bhatt produced two children: Pooja Bhatt, an actress and filmmaker, and Rahul. After their divorce, Mahesh remarried actress Soni Razdan, with whom he shares two daughters, Alia and Shaheen Bhatt.
