London’s Starry Weekend: BAFTAs and Extravagant Celebrations
This past weekend in London was awash with glamour as the film and fashion elite came together for a series of lavish events coinciding with the BAFTA Awards. Numerous prestigious venues across the city transformed into celebration hotspots, catering to an influx of high-profile guests.
The festivities commenced on Thursday, where Italian luxury brand Brunello Cucinelli hosted an exclusive dinner at the venerable Chiltern Firehouse. Attendees included an impressive roster of stars such as Rege-Jean Page, Vanessa Kirby, and Paul Forman, all adorned in the designer’s signature styles.
However, the weekend took an unexpected turn on Friday when the Chiltern Firehouse had to be evacuated due to a fire alarm. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the incident led to the closure of the venue. This change prompted Netflix to quickly relocate its annual party, originally planned for the Chiltern, to Twenty Two in Mayfair, where attendees would gather following the BAFTAs.
On Saturday night, Chanel collaborated with Charles Finch to throw a stunning affair at the opulent Mayfair nightclub 5 Hertford Street. The event attracted a star-studded crowd, including awards favorite Demi Moore and her daughter Scout Willis, as well as Lupita Nyong’o, who made a memorable entrance in a striking feathered collar. The menswear showcased by Rege-Jean Page, Jeff Goldblum, and Jared Leto included unique neckties and skinny scarves, indicative of a playful approach to formal attire. Meanwhile, Lily James and Ellie Bamber opted for classic Chanel tweed skirts, exuding elegance in their respective black and soft blue ensembles.
Inside 5 Hertford Street, the atmosphere was luxurious yet intimate, with cozy alcoves dressed in deep aubergine velvets and quirky chintzy wallpapers providing the perfect backdrop for hushed conversations and clandestine gossip. After enjoying dinner, guests made their way to Lulu’s, the club’s lively basement, where house music set a vibrant tone for dancing and celebration.
Later that evening, a short cab ride brought many attendees to the Bulgari pre-BAFTA party held at the National Portrait Gallery. The overlap between both glamorous gatherings was notable, with several emerging talents including EE Rising Star Award nominees Marisa Abela and Mikey Madison in attendance. Isabella Rossellini graced the event in a sharp pinstripe suit, while Anna Kendrick, adorned in Bulgari jewels, admired the gallery’s latest exhibit featuring works by artists like Gillian Wearing and Zadie Smith.
As the evening progressed, Hugh Grant mingled gracefully with guests, while Kelly Rutherford captivated onlookers in a chic red silk gown, taking a moment to relax on a gallery bench. The vibe was buoyant, with joy shared among fellow attendees like Adrien Brody, Mikey Madison, and Brady Corbett, who engaged in lively conversations driven by the rhythmic sounds of jazz. The ambiance was punctuated by laughter shared between Vogue columnist Raven Smith and British presenter Clara Amfo, all while guests savored delicate hors d’oeuvres and sipped on champagne and Don Julio margaritas.
