Victoria Clark Reflects on Directing Love Life
Victoria Clark has expressed her deep affection for the production she has dedicated seven years to, stating, “This is a show that I’ve loved for so long. It’s just so beautiful to be with this group of people. And it all goes by so fast! Two weeks from now the whole thing will be over, so for me, it’s about the joy of being together in community and making something that we love.”
The production in question is Love Life, which Clark is directing as part of the 2025 New York City Center Encores! season. This musical has not been performed in New York for over 75 years, making its revival all the more significant. Originally slated for the 2020 Encores! series, the show faced cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving many eager for its long-awaited return.
Leading the cast are celebrated performers Brian Stokes Mitchell and Kate Baldwin, accompanied by talent including John Edwards, Sara Jean Ford, Clarke Thorell, Andrea Rosa Guzman, and Christopher Jordan.
Guest Music Director Rob Berman shared his excitement for the production, emphasizing its historical significance: “Seeing this is so worthwhile because this is a piece that people have heard about but have most likely never seen. Now’s the chance to see what it is—what’s fabulous about it, what is remarkable about it, and maybe also how it falls short from being an absolute classic! I think if you’re a theatre lover, it’s a must see.”
The creative team encourages audiences to explore the musical’s unique qualities and reflections of its time, promising a captivating experience for theatergoers.
