Veteran Telugu actress Chittajallu Krishnaveni, a key figure in the rich tapestry of Telugu cinema, has died at the age of 100, succumbing to age-related health issues. She passed away peacefully at her home on February 16, leaving behind a profound legacy that enriched the film industry for nearly a century.
Throughout her remarkable career, Krishnaveni was celebrated for her dynamic performances and unwavering commitment to the arts. Her contributions significantly shaped the landscape of Telugu cinema, and her performances in iconic films are cherished memories for countless fans and film enthusiasts.
Krishnaveni’s career began as a child artist in the film *Sati Anasuya – Dhruvavijayam* (1936), where she played the character Anasuya. Transitioning to lead roles and vocal performances, she quickly established herself as a multifaceted talent. According to reports from Sakshi Post, her personal life intersected with her professional journey when she married a Mirzapuram landlord who was also involved in filmmaking, serving as the head of Shobhanachala Studios. She took over the studio management and stepped into film production, further influencing the industry.
Her illustrious career, which spanned more than eight decades, featured memorable roles in classics including *Bhoja-Kalidasa*, *Daksha Yajna*, *Tukaram*, and *Kacha Devayani*. One of her notable achievements was being the first to perform an Annamayya Keerthana in a film, specifically with her rendition of “Jo Achyutananda Jojo Mukunda,” a cultural milestone in Telugu cinema. Even before India achieved independence, she showcased her talent in the performance “Bhupathi Champithin” in *Gollabhama*.
As a producer, Krishnaveni was instrumental in shaping the careers of new talent, notably introducing the legendary N. T. Rama Rao in the film *Manadesam* (1949), which also marked the debut of famed composer Ghantasala. Her impact didn’t stop there; she also played a crucial role in launching other artists, such as music director Ramesh Naidu and singer P. Leela. Moreover, she continued to foster the film industry through her daughter, N. R. Anuradha, guiding her into film production.
