An unannounced update for Oblivion Remastered has led to complications for various settings in the PC versions of the game.
After its release on April 25, players reported issues indicating that specific settings, such as anti-aliasing and upscaling options, became unmodifiable and were automatically switched off, leaving no means to restore them.
Although the exact purpose of the update remains unclear, Bethesda confirmed shortly after its rollout that it was a hotfix addressing “backend tweaks” without affecting gameplay directly.
Bethesda Confirms a Resolution is Coming
In a Reddit post, Bethesda Community Manager addressed the issue, saying, “Thank you all for your quick feedback on today’s hotfix.” The update was intended for backend improvements but inadvertently impacted the graphical settings for some players on the Microsoft Store, particularly concerning upscaling and anti-aliasing.
Bethesda assured players that any graphical settings changed prior to the hotfix would stay intact and function normally. However, those affected would find themselves “temporarily unable to adjust those settings.” While no specific timeline for a fix was shared, the team is actively working on a solution.
The emergence of the disappearing settings was confirmed by Bethesda to be unintentional.
Oblivion Remastered was unexpectedly launched on April 22 for both consoles and PC, following a dedicated Bethesda livestream on the same day.
The return of Elder Scrolls fans to a revamped Cyrodiil had been widely speculated upon, leaking information hinting at the project’s unveiling. Just days before the remaster’s release, several screenshots of the game appeared on Virtuos’ website.
Despite receiving accolades as the “gold standard” of remakes in early critiques, the game has not escaped scrutiny. Specifically, the Expert difficulty level has faced backlash, with many players arguing it has been excessively challenging compared to the original.
