The Challenge: All Stars Season 5 Returns with Rivals Theme
The Challenge: All Stars makes its anticipated return with an exciting twist for its fifth season: the Rivals theme. This season features contestants paired with their biggest adversaries, leading to a mix of personal tensions and historical rivalries stemming from previous gameplay.
A prime example of the deep-seated rivalries is seen between Beth Stolarczyk and Jonna Mannion. Their conflict intensified when Beth accused Jonna of having an affair with MJ Garrett during a previous season. Similarly, Leroy Garrett faces Devin Walker as a partner, after Leroy’s earlier betrayal led to Devin’s elimination in The Challenge: Double Agents.
In anticipation of the season premiere, TV Insider spoke with both Beth and Leroy about their past rivalries and their motives for returning to the competition.
A Look Back at Past Rivalries
Can we hop back to Season 40 quickly? Leroy, what was with giving [Johnny] Bananas one karma point? The fans need to know.
Leroy Garrett: When I was eliminated, it was the very first elimination round. I hugged Bananas goodbye and he mentioned he would be the next to go home. I thought he wouldn’t even make it to the end, so I humorously decided to give him a single point. It wasn’t meant to be malicious; I simply didn’t think he would be around long enough to matter. In retrospect, I could have rated him higher, but back then I didn’t take it seriously. He later joked about it, expressing disbelief that I gave him just a one.
Confronting Past Mistakes
Beth, you left All Stars Season 3 after your fallout with Jonna. Why return this time?
Beth Stolarczyk: Season 3 was a challenging experience for me. Jumping into an ongoing competition is never easy, especially when personal conflicts arise. Jonna significantly disrupted my strategy, and I was frustrated with her behavior, especially since she had just won in Season 2. I felt the need to address my actions, earn a chance at winning the prize, and take responsibility for my mistakes. But I also believe Jonna should acknowledge her part in our conflict.
Did you talk to her at all before coming on this season?
Beth: No, we didn’t communicate. It was incredibly tense and hostile outside of the game. While I regret what I said, I am not going to allow anyone to label me as a liar, because that’s simply not true.
So you’re standing by the allegations but regretting how you voiced them?
Beth: Correct. I apologize for my delivery and losing my composure. However, I stand by my claims. My integrity and reputation matter immensely to me, and I refuse to be mischaracterized. I wish I had handled the situation differently, but my core truth remains intact.
Despite your personal issues, how did you feel about being partnered with Jonna, considering her successful track record?
Beth: Being with her gives me a unique chance to apologize in person, something I really want to do. This season represents not just a competition but an opportunity to amend my past mistakes and show I can be a team player focused on victory. Since I might not get many more chances, I want to truly compete for that prize money. I am uncertain whether Jonna will accept my apology or be open to working with me, which adds a layer of anxiety for me as I enter this competition.
Facing Past Decisions
Leroy, how do you feel about partnering with Devin?
Leroy: The stakes feel different this time because the rivalry originated from my own actions. I deeply regret my former betrayal and know the impact it had on him. It’s essential for me to confront what happened and apologize for my behavior. While I made that choice to better myself within the game, I can’t ignore the discomfort it brings to face Devin again. The Rivals twist gives us a chance to potentially mend things, even though it’s difficult.
Outside Relationships and Future Prospects
Did you have any relationship with Devin outside the show before filming began?
Leroy: We were amicable but not close. Only during Challenge-related events would we interact. I wouldn’t say we had animosity, but I know that if we competed together again, he would seek his opportunity for revenge—rightfully so.
On a rivals-themed season, there’s always a chance for twists, like money theft at the end. Did you discuss this with your partners?
Leroy: I explicitly assured Devin that I wouldn’t steal if we reached that point. Knowing our history, I’ve spent the season worrying about possible twists that could see him take the prize from me, which adds to the pressure.
Beth: We’ve had so many other discussions that didn’t involve money dilemmas. Personally, I could never live with myself if I unjustly took all the winnings from my partner. Dividing the prize feels not just fair but integral to maintaining my conscience.
Would you both consider participating in another season if offered?
Beth: Absolutely! If MTV invites me back, you’ll see me again. I’m always ready for the next challenge.
Leroy: More than anything, I hope for my fiancée Kam Williams to return. Once she’s past a certain point in her personal life, I know she’d be excited to compete again. As for me, competing is always appealing, and if the opportunity arises, I’d be eager to take it.
