The NAACP Image Awards pre-awards event wrapped up its two-night virtual celebration on Wednesday, recognizing a broad array of talent in the entertainment industry. Streaming exclusively on the NAACP Image Awards’ YouTube channel, the event showcased winners across 26 non-televised categories.
Among the standout recipients were Beyoncé and her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. Beyoncé secured two honors: outstanding female artist and outstanding album for her acclaimed work, Cowboy Carter, which also recently garnered the Album of the Year title at the Grammys. Blue Ivy, making her voice-over debut as Princess Kiara in the animated film Mufasa: The Lion King, received an Image Award for her performance.
Other notable achievements included Doechii, who was lauded as outstanding new artist following her Grammy win, and Kendrick Lamar, who won for outstanding hip-hop/rap song with “Not Like Us,” his performance during the Super Bowl halftime show having also drawn significant attention. Chris Brown won multiple awards, including outstanding male artist and outstanding international song for his collaboration with Davido on “Hmmm.”
The awards also highlighted accomplishments in cinema, with Oscar-nominated productions featuring prominently. The film “Emilia Pérez” was honored as outstanding international motion picture, while Paul Tazewell received recognition for outstanding costume design in “Wicked.” Additionally, “Nickel Boys” earned accolades for its outstanding cinematography, and Netflix’s “The Six Triple Eight” won two awards, recognizing both Ebony Obsidian’s breakthrough performance and the ensemble cast’s exceptional work.
The first night of the awards saw winners such as Samuel L. Jackson, Taraji P. Henson, Ayo Edebiri, Keke Palmer, and Marlon Wayans acknowledged for their contributions. The main event of the 56th NAACP Image Awards is set to air live on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 8 PM ET/PT across BET and CBS.
