Billie Eilish’s Grammy-Nominated “Birds of a Feather” Takes Center Stage
The acclaimed track has garnered three Grammy nominations.
Billie Eilish recently shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative process of her new song, “Birds of a Feather,” which is featured on her latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. The video, showcasing Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell, illustrates the initial stages of developing this popular hit.
Released in July, “Birds of a Feather” quickly captured the attention of music fans, emerging as one of the season’s standout tracks. The song has earned nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards in prestigious categories, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
In an Instagram post dated Wednesday, Eilish invited her followers into the making of the song. She captioned the video: “February 16th 2023 lil video of the beginnings of birds of a feather.” The clip features the siblings experimenting with the song’s lyrics, alongside a playful dog lounging on a couch. During the session, Finneas is seen with his feet up on a desk, and Eilish expresses her enthusiasm, stating, “I love that idea,” as they devise the lyrics that would evolve into a heartfelt chorus: “Birds of a feather, we should stick together/I know I said I’d never think I wasn’t better alone/Can’t change the weather, might not be forever/But if it’s forever, it’s even better.”
Hit Me Hard and Soft has achieved significant recognition, racking up a total of seven Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. In a review for Rolling Stone, writer Rob Sheffield praised the album, noting that it stands out in a year filled with compelling pop releases, describing it as “uniquely strange.” He characterized “Birds of a Feather” as a “poignant Eighties-flavored love song that could pass for vintage Sade or George Michael.”
