Björn Ulvaeus Ties the Knot with Christina Sas in Copenhagen
In a delightful celebration, Björn Ulvaeus, the iconic member of the Swedish pop group ABBA, has married his partner Christina Sas. The ceremony took place in Copenhagen, orchestrated by comedian and broadcaster Sandi Toksvig.
The 79-year-old Ulvaeus, known for his significant contributions to music, first met Sas in Nuremberg, Germany, in 2021 during promotional events for ABBA’s latest album, “Voyage.” The pair began their romantic journey in the spring of 2022.
Ulvaeus announced the joyous occasion with a post on his Instagram, stating, “Today on the 21st of September 2024, Björn Ulvaeus married Christina Sas from Herning, Denmark.”
The intimate wedding was surrounded by close family and friends, capturing a moment of joy for the couple. Ulvaeus shared various photographs from the event, including a striking image of Toksvig in red robes alongside the groom and the bride, who wore an elegant green wrap dress.
Gyles Brandreth, a broadcaster, expressed his happiness over attending the event via an Instagram post, sharing his enthusiasm about meeting both Ulvaeus and Sas for his Rosebud podcast. He noted that Toksvig’s role as the officiant added a unique touch to the occasion, with Ulvaeus affirming that she made the day “extra special.” Toksvig and Ulvaeus have enjoyed a friendship since collaborating on “Mamma Mia: The Party!” in 2018.
ABBA’s Legacy Celebrated
This year marks a significant milestone for ABBA as they celebrate 50 years since their triumphant win at the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with the classic hit “Waterloo.” The group, comprised of two musical couples—Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog, along with Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad—has left an indelible mark on pop culture worldwide.
Ulvaeus’s personal history includes a marriage to Fältskog from 1971 to 1980, during which they welcomed two children, Linda and Peter. Later, he was married to Lena Kallersjö from 1981 until their divorce in 2022. The legacy of ABBA continues to resonate, despite the band members not reuniting for the upcoming Eurovision 2024, to be held in Malmö, Sweden. Andersson and Lyngstad also separated in 1981, a year prior to ABBA’s official disbanding.
As Ulvaeus embarks on this new chapter of his life with Sas, fans around the globe celebrate not only his personal happiness but also the enduring impact of ABBA’s music that has spanned decades.
