Blake Lively, dressed in a striking evening gown, used her speech to highlight the weight of being called “influential.”

Blake Lively has publicly addressed her ongoing legal issues with Justin Baldoni, her co-star and director for the film It Ends with Us, during an appearance at the TIME100 Gala held in New York City on April 24.

Lively was recognized as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People and attended the event with her husband, Ryan Reynolds, who was noted to be supportive as they engaged in affectionate moments backstage. When it was her turn to speak, Lively delivered an impactful six-minute address.

Though she did not specifically mention the lawsuit during her speech, Lively, 37, alluded to the tumultuous events of the past two years. She remarked, “I have so much to say about the last two years of my life, but tonight is not the forum,” subtly referencing the ongoing controversy with Baldoni, 41.

In a captivating evening gown, Lively reflected on the gravity of being deemed influential, stating, “To have an effect, that’s not only an honour — it’s a significant responsibility. How we use that matters. Who and what we stand up for, and what we stay silent about… matters.” This statement resonated as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with influence.

Lively also took a moment to thank “every man, including my sweet husband, who [is] kind and good when no one is watching,” a statement many interpreted as a juxtaposition to her allegations against Baldoni.

In December 2024, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment and conducting a retaliatory smear campaign. The suit also implicated Baldoni’s production company, Wayfarer Studios. Baldoni has denied these allegations and has initiated a countersuit against Lively, Reynolds, and their publicist, Leslie Sloane, seeking $400 million in damages for claimed defamation and civil extortion.

While Lively opted not to delve into her legal challenges at the gala, she did speak about the strength derived from women before her and those who continue to advocate for their voices. “What I will speak to separately,” she stated, “is the feeling of being a woman who has a voice… because of the pain, caution, and fight of the many women who paved the way.” This acknowledgment underscored the broader context of women’s ongoing struggles for recognition and equality.

The high-profile trial is set to commence in March 2026, marking the next chapter in a significant legal battle that has captured public attention.
