Authorities have released body camera footage related to the tragic deaths of actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa. The video captures law enforcement officers searching their home in New Mexico and ultimately discovering both of their bodies, alongside one of their living dogs, which remained by Betsy’s side.
The footage, obtained by TMZ, showcases the efforts of police as they searched the Santa Fe residence for the couple.
The search commenced with the discovery of Betsy’s body, which was located near a locked exterior door, accompanied by one of their dogs. Gene’s body was subsequently found near the kitchen area.
Additionally, a different dog was found deceased in a crate; this animal had been placed there following a veterinary appointment.
The recorded footage reveals the disarray within the home, indicating a challenging living environment. An environmental assessment conducted by the New Mexico Department of Public Health reported that the property was overrun with rodents, with both deceased animals and nests found across eight detached outbuildings.
Betsy passed away on February 12 from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, while Gene died shortly after, estimated around February 17 or 18, due to heart disease and advanced Alzheimer’s. The couple was ultimately laid to rest in a private memorial service held earlier this month.
