Sen. Cory Booker Avoids Speculation on 2028 Presidential Bid
During a recent appearance on “Meet the Press,” Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) chose to focus on his immediate political objectives rather than entertain questions regarding a potential presidential campaign in 2028. Instead, Booker emphasized his commitment to his 2026 re-election campaign for the Senate.
When NBC News correspondent Kristen Welker pressed him about his aspirations for the 2028 race, asking, “Senator, yes or no, are you considering a run in 2028?” Booker replied, “I’m focused on today and my re-election in ’26.” He highlighted his dedication to serving New Jersey and expressed hope for another six years in office.
“Let’s be clear, I’m proud of the work that we’ve done over the last six years,” Booker stated. He further asserted that no senator has matched his record in securing resources for New Jersey, underscoring his accomplishments during his tenure.
Booker reiterated his current priorities, saying, “So, I’m focused on the now, working to defend folks, and God willing, being re-elected in 2026.” His responses signal a strategic choice to consolidate support within his state as the national political landscape begins to take shape for the next presidential election cycle.
In recent weeks, speculation about Booker entering the 2028 presidential race has grown, fueled by the Democratic Party’s search for a viable candidate to lead the party forward. His previous presidential bid in 2020, although unsuccessful, has kept him in the conversation for future campaigns.
Additionally, Booker recently made news by delivering the longest speech on the Senate floor, lasting over 25 hours, as he protested against various policies of the Trump administration. This act illustrates his engagement with national issues and positions him as a prominent voice within the Democratic Party.
