A24 has announced its commitment to finance and distribute “The Riders.”
This film, directed by Edward Berger and featuring Brad Pitt in the lead role, draws its narrative from Tim Winton’s 1996 novel of the same name, adapted by David Kajganich. The production team includes Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss of Scott Free, alongside Kajganich and Berger’s Nine Hours, with Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dede Gardner representing Plan B Entertainment.
Filming is scheduled to commence in 2026, with locations set across various sites in Europe.
While A24 hasn’t shared a specific logline for the film, the original synopsis of the book provides insight into its premise: “After spending two years traveling through Europe, Scully and his wife Jennifer find themselves in Ireland. On a whimsical impulse, Jennifer decides to purchase an old farmhouse located beneath a castle. As Scully dedicates his time to renovating the house, Jennifer returns to Australia for financial matters. When Scully goes to Shannon Airport to pick up Jennifer and their seven-year-old daughter, Billie, it is Billie who arrives alone — without any note or explanation from Jennifer. The mysterious absence leaves Billie unable to speak, and in that moment, Scully’s world unravels.”
A24 is set to oversee the global theatrical release of this intriguing film.
