Mastodon Announces Departure of Co-Founder Brent Hinds

Mastodon, the renowned Atlanta-based metal band, has announced the mutual separation from co-founding lead guitarist Brent Hinds. This decision was shared via the band’s social media channels, highlighting their gratitude for the time spent together in creating music and building a significant history.

The band expressed heartfelt sentiments towards Hinds, stating, “We’re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we’ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.” They also reassured fans that they remain energized and excited about their future, confirming that all planned tour engagements for 2025 will continue as scheduled.

Brent Hinds, who co-founded Mastodon in 2000 alongside bassist Troy Sanders, drummer Brann Dailor, and guitarist Bill Kelliher, has been instrumental in shaping the band’s distinctive sound. Their debut studio album, Remission, was released in 2002, and over the years, Mastodon garnered six Grammy nominations, clinching a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2018 for the song “Sultan’s Curse” from the album Emperor of Sand.

The recent album featuring Hinds, Hushed and Grim, was launched in 2021, marking a significant chapter in the band’s discography. Beyond his work with Mastodon, Hinds also leads the band Fiend Without a Face and has participated in various projects, including Giraffe Tongue Orchestra and Legend of the Seagullmen.

The remaining members of Mastodon affirmed their commitment to continue making music and connecting with fans in this new phase, signaling that they are looking forward to the upcoming performances.

Mastodon’s Future Without Hinds

As Mastodon prepares to navigate this transition, fans eagerly anticipate how the band will evolve creatively. Their resilience and dedication to their craft suggest that they will continue to push musical boundaries. The upcoming tours may also provide a fresh opportunity for the band to further engage with their audience while exploring new avenues of artistic expression.

With over two decades of collaboration that have left an indelible mark on the metal genre, both Mastodon and Hinds will likely chart new paths that reflect their individual and collective growth.
