Brett Gardner‘s 14-year-old son, Miller, is suspected to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning, as suggested by the Costa Rican Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) in a recent announcement.
During a press briefing, OIJ Director Rándall Zúñiga revealed that elevated carbon monoxide levels were found within the family’s hotel room at the Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort in Manuel Antonio. According to Zúñiga, the room was situated next to an area housing specialized machinery, which could potentially have contributed to gas contamination, leading to Miller inhaling dangerously high levels of these toxic fumes.
Miller tragically passed away in his sleep on March 19, shortly after he and other family members experienced health issues. Initially, authorities speculated that he might have succumbed to asphyxia, given that he was found with vomit on him.
However, this theory was dismissed, and investigators then considered the possibility of food poisoning as a cause of death.
The OIJ is currently collaborating with the FBI as part of the ongoing investigation into Miller’s untimely death. As they await the results of final toxicology reports, an official cause of death remains unconfirmed.
Miller’s family expressed their profound grief in a statement, stating they are still struggling to grasp life without him. They fondly remembered his passions for sports, including football, baseball, and golf, as well as activities like hunting and fishing. They emphasized that he embraced each day to the fullest alongside his family and friends.
