Real Women Have Curves: The Musical, directed and choreographed by the acclaimed Sergio Trujillo, showcases a vibrant blend of music and storytelling. With lyrics and music by the talented Joy Huerta and composer Benjamin Velez, alongside a book by Lisa Loomer with Nell Benjamin, the production is sure to make waves in the theater community. As audiences anticipate the release of the new cast album, they can also enjoy the EP titled Makin’ it Work with Joy, which features Grammy-winning artist Joy Huerta performing several original songs written for the musical. This EP includes tracks like “Make it Work,” “Daydream,” “Flying Away,” and “Real Women Have Curves.” Alongside Huerta, the EP features performances from artists such as Katya Diaz, Nadia DiGiallonardo, Aline Mayagoitia, and Mari Solis.
Real Women Have Curves: The Musical features an impressive cast that includes newcomer Tatianna Córdoba as the determined high school senior Ana. Justina Machado takes on the role of Carmen, Ana’s mother, who envisions a conventional future for her daughter. The ensemble also introduces Florencia Cuenca in her Broadway debut as Estela, along with Shelby Acosta, Carla Jimenez, Aline Mayagoitia, and a host of other talented performers.
Celebrated for its humor and uplifting message, Real Women Have Curves: The Musical tells the story of Ana Garcia, who aspires to soar beyond the confines of her East Los Angeles home. When her family faces a crucial order for 200 dresses, Ana’s journey unfolds as she tries to balance her personal dreams, her mother’s expectations, and the support of a community of women striving for success against numerous challenges.
