Jimin continues to make waves in the music industry as his solo album, MUSE, maintains a remarkable presence on the Billboard 200 chart for an impressive 30 consecutive weeks. Released in July 2024, the album has captivated audiences and garnered numerous accolades, solidifying Jimin’s status as a trailblazer in the K-pop genre. With this achievement, he becomes the first Korean solo artist to reach such a milestone.
In tandem with the album’s success, its lead single, WHO, is also thriving, celebrating its 29th week on the Billboard Hot 100. Historically, Jimin’s group BTS stands as the only other Korean act to chart an album on the Billboard 200 for 30 weeks, according to Soompi.
Jimin’s accomplishments extend beyond charts. The track WHO recently surpassed an astounding 1.3 billion streams on Spotify, marking him as the fastest Asian artist to achieve this feat. Additionally, he is distinguished as the only solo K-pop artist with two tracks that have surpassed this streaming milestone; the other being Like Crazy from his debut solo EP, FACE. This remarkable achievement underscores Jimin’s influence and the growing global appreciation for K-pop.
In a recent interview with Weverse Magazine, Jimin’s producer, Pdogg, shed light on the artist’s creative process for MUSE. Pdogg noted that during the pandemic, like many, Jimin experienced feelings of isolation and sadness. However, instead of succumbing to despair, he transformed his experiences into music, resulting in an album filled with uplifting and hopeful themes. This transformation from adversity to a positive creative output is a testament to Jimin’s resilience and artistic vision.
MUSE is a thoughtfully constructed album comprising seven tracks, including the upbeat WHO, Rebirth (Intro), Interlude: Showtime, Slow Dance (featuring Sofia Carson), Be Mine, and Closer Than This. The album’s success was prefigured by its promotional track, Smeraldo Garden Marching Band (featuring LOCO), which garnered attention ahead of its release. MUSE follows Jimin’s initial solo foray with his 2023 EP, FACE, further establishing his solo career.
