Fans of BTS eagerly anticipating the group’s return in 2025 may face a longer wait than expected. HYBE CEO Lee Jae Sang offered a significant update regarding the group’s comeback plans. Currently, five members of BTS—Suga, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—are fulfilling their military obligations, with discharge projected for June 2025. However, the agency emphasized that the reunification and subsequent creation of new music will require additional time.

During a press conference held in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on March 31, Lee Jae Sang shared insights into the anticipated timeline for BTS’ return. According to Koreaboo, he stated, “The BTS members are set to complete their military service by the end of the first half of this year, but they will require time for preparation and production before resuming their activities. The company is also in discussions with leading composers, but the artists themselves need sufficient time for reflection and planning.”

Why BTS Needs Time Before Their Comeback

Lee Jae Sang elaborated on the comprehensive nature of preparing for a BTS comeback, highlighting that it’s not merely about dropping new tracks. “The process typically involves creating songs, releasing an album, and subsequently embarking on a tour. However, given BTS’s status as global icons, there are ongoing discussions surrounding their vision and the direction they wish to take in their ‘next’ phase. Careful consideration and alignment with that direction are essential,” he noted.

BTS, comprising RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, has not performed together since June 2022, focusing instead on individual projects and military commitments.

Where Are the BTS Members Now?

Jin was the first member to enlist, starting his service in December 2022, and he completed his service in June 2024. Before his enlistment, he launched his solo career with the single “Astronaut.”

J-Hope followed suit, joining the military in April 2023 and finishing his service in October 2024. His solo album, “Jack in the Box,” was released prior to his enlistment.

Suga enlisted in September 2023 as a social service agent due to a previous shoulder injury, with an expected discharge in June 2025. Prior to enlisting, he unveiled his album “D-Day” under his alias Agust D and hosted the popular drinking talk show “Suchwita.”

RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook all enlisted together in December 2023, with their service concluding in June 2025.

Leading up to their military duties, each member engaged fans with solo endeavors. RM released “Indigo,” Jimin brought out “Face,” and V debuted with “Layover” while also collaborating with global fashion brands such as Celine and Cartier. Jungkook made headlines with his album “Golden” and chart-topping singles “Seven” and “3D.”

BTS’ Hiatus and What Comes Next

On June 14, 2022, BTS announced a hiatus during their annual Festa dinner, clarifying that this was a strategic pause rather than a disbandment, enabling them to explore solo careers and fulfill military responsibilities. As they approach a potential reunion in 2025, HYBE is strategically planning for the group’s return, although the exact timeline is still unclear.

With the possibility of members regrouping by mid-2025, fans are left with heightened anticipation, recognizing that a complete comeback may still be on the horizon but requires additional time and careful planning.
