BTS star V released Winter Ahead, in collaboration with Park Hyo Shin, on November 29.
BTS member Kim Taehyung, popularly known as V, continues to make headlines even while serving in the military. The 28-year-old artist has recently achieved a remarkable milestone in his solo career, particularly resonating with the holiday spirit. His latest digital single, “Winter Ahead,” a jazz-pop collaboration with renowned ballad singer Park Hyo Shin, has topped the Billboard Holiday Digital Song Sales chart, surpassing the legendary Mariah Carey’s classic, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
With “Winter Ahead” making its ascent to No. 1, Mariah Carey’s iconic holiday track has slipped to the second position. According to statistics from Luminate, V’s single has so far sold 10,300 copies, compared to Carey’s 3,200 copies sold in the United States. This achievement for Carey is significant, as she remains the first artist to have a song feature at the top of the Billboard chart across four consecutive decades since its original release.
Upon hearing the news, fans from the BTS ARMY flooded social media platforms like X (previously known as Twitter) to express their enthusiasm and pride for V’s accomplishment. One fan page shared a heartfelt message, stating, “DO YOU REALIZE HOW HUGE IT IS!?!? SO PROUD OF HIM. CONGRATULATIONS V. CONGRATULATIONS TAEHYUNG. HISTORY MAKER TAEHYUNG,” capturing the collective excitement of fans.
Further highlighting his success, “Winter Ahead” has also made an impact on Billboard’s Holiday 100 chart, debuting at No. 62. This chart, specifically dedicated to festive songs, is akin to the Hot 100. Additionally, V’s single has entered the prestigious Hot 100 list, debuting at No. 99. This achievement marks the fifth instance where the K-pop star has secured a position on this influential chart in the U.S.
Moreover, V’s sales performance has propelled “Winter Ahead” to the top of the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart, where it was recognized as the best-selling track in the U.S. This marks the second occasion he has reached No. 1 as a solo artist on this chart, previously dethroning Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which had held the top spot for an extended period this year.
Amid these successes, it is essential to note that V is currently fulfilling his mandatory military service, which he commenced in December 2023, with plans to be discharged by June 2025.
