Suga of BTS Issues Apology Following DUI Incident

Suga, a member of the globally popular K-pop group BTS, has come forward to apologize to his fans after facing a driving under the influence (DUI) charge related to an incident involving his electric scooter. The 31-year-old artist shared his reflections and remorse in a detailed post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In his statement, he expressed, “I am deeply sorry and deeply regretful for disappointing you all.” He recounted the events that transpired the previous night, explaining he chose to ride an electric scooter home after consuming alcohol during a dinner, unaware that such actions are prohibited while intoxicated.

Although specifics about the location and timing of the incident were not disclosed, Suga characterized the situation as stemming from his “careless and wrong actions.” He narrated that while attempting to park his electric scooter outside his residence, he lost his balance and fell, leading to a breathalyzer test that recorded a blood alcohol content exceeding the legal limit of 0.08. Despite no damage or injury resulting from this incident, he emphasized his accountability, stating, “This is my responsibility, and I have no excuses. I bow my head and apologize to everyone.”

Suga currently has less than a year remaining in his alternative military service in South Korea after being deemed unfit for regular combat due to a shoulder injury sustained in 2020.

According to a report from The New York Times, authorities in the Yongsan district of Seoul, where Suga resides, confirmed that he was found alone on the ground and subsequently subjected to a breathalyzer test, resulting in the aforementioned legal consequences.

Following the incident, BigHit Entertainment, BTS’s record label, issued a public statement, expressing regret over Suga’s actions that led to this unfortunate event. They acknowledged the disappointment caused by the artist’s behavior and stated that he is prepared to face disciplinary measures as a social service agent during his military obligation. The agency committed to ensuring better vigilance to prevent such incidents in the future.

Suga concluded his statement with heartfelt apologies to “everyone who was hurt by my careless and wrong actions,” vowing to be “more careful in my actions to prevent this from happening again.”
