BTS member Suga was fined 15 million won (approximately $11,500) for operating an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol, as reported by Reuters. The Seoul Western District Court delivered the ruling on Friday, which was confirmed by court officials shortly thereafter.
As indicated by Reuters, individuals facing summary judgments have the option to request a formal trial within a week to dispute the verdict.
The incident occurred in early August when Suga fell from his scooter outside his residence. Police, having witnessed the fall, conducted a breathalyzer test and found that Suga’s blood alcohol content was 0.227%, significantly higher than the legal driving limit of 0.08%.
In response to the situation, Suga initially expressed remorse, stating, “I apologize to everyone hurt by my careless and wrong actions. I will make a concerted effort to act more responsibly moving forward to prevent similar occurrences.”
Subsequently, he issued a more detailed apology, explaining, “On the evening of August 6, I made the regrettable decision to ride an electric scooter on the sidewalk after drinking. I apologize for the misunderstandings caused by my earlier statement that I hastily posted on the 7th. I should have reflected more carefully, but I did not.”
Taking full accountability for his actions, Suga extended his apologies to his fellow BTS members, his team, and fans “who have consistently supported me despite my flaws.”
He further remarked, “I understand that it is challenging to mend the hurt and disappointment felt by my fans through mere words. I deeply regret this and reflect upon it with a weighty heart every day. I am prepared to accept any forthcoming consequences, including criticism and reprimands.”

The singer has faced considerable backlash following the incident, particularly from fans in South Korea, where many have signed a global petition calling for his departure from BTS. The petition reflects the stance of the Global ARMY Alliance, which supports all seven members of BTS. This organization encompasses 127 groups of BTS fans from both South Korea and abroad, affirming their commitment to all members of the band.
Suga is currently serving his mandatory military duty as a social service agent in South Korea, while the other members of BTS are also on hiatus during this period. Nevertheless, several members have been pursuing solo projects, with RM releasing a collaborative piece with Megan Thee Stallion earlier in the month.
