Bungie Reveals New Details About Marathon
Bungie has unveiled its upcoming team-based extraction shooter, Marathon, showcasing both gameplay and a cinematic short during a weekend event. The game is set for release on September 23 and will be available on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, providing players with full cross-play and cross-save capabilities.
The reboot of Bungie’s iconic 30-year-old FPS series was first revealed in 2023, and details about it have been scarce until now. Bungie describes Marathon as a game where players take on the role of a Runner, a cybernetic mercenary exploring the ruins of Tau Ceti IV in search of wealth and power. Players will form teams of three to compete against rival Runners and combat security forces to secure weapons and upgrades. The objective is to survive and retain all gathered resources for future missions or embark on an expedition to the derelict Marathon ship hovering above.
For those who missed the live Gameplay Reveal Showcase, Bungie has made the highlights available on its website and official Discord server. Additionally, Bungie will host a “fairly small” Closed Alpha Test from April 23 to May 4, followed by larger testing phases leading up to the official launch in September.
