Tragic Crash: Woman Dies After Vehicle Enters Intracoastal Waterway
A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday when a 65-year-old woman lost her life following a car accident that resulted in her vehicle entering the Intracoastal Waterway.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene located at 1450 S. Tamiami Trail. According to authorities, the woman was driving a white Toyota sedan southbound when she suddenly lost control. The vehicle veered off the roadway, crossed over the curb and sidewalk, struck a light pole, and then plummeted down an embankment adjacent to the Circus Bridge, Venice Police officials reported. The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been disclosed as authorities work to notify her next of kin.

Witnesses, along with emergency personnel, acted swiftly to assist the woman. They were able to flip the vehicle back onto its wheels and, despite their efforts to break a window and free her, medical personnel pronounced her dead after approximately 20 minutes of attempting to revive her.
Responding agencies to this unfortunate accident included the Venice Police Marine Unit, Venice Fire Rescue, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, the U.S. Coast Guard, Sea Tow Venice, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
