Cadillac’s Daytona 24 Hours Aspirations Diminished by Multi-Car Collision
Cadillac’s quest for victory in the Daytona 24 Hours encountered a significant setback, as the #40 V-Series.R from Wayne Taylor Racing found itself immobilized on the track due to a multi-car crash during the race’s eighth hour.
Following the caution period marked by the fourth yellow flag of the event, Louis Deletraz was engaged in a fierce contest for sixth place in the GTP class, battling against Tom Blomqvist in the #60 Meyer Shank Acura.
However, the Swiss driver appeared to lose control, spinning out as he approached Turn 2 just after the restart. Deletraz crashed into the barriers at the corner’s exit before rotating back onto the track, which exacerbated the situation.
In the aftermath, Nick Boulle could be seen leaving the #2 United Autosports ORECA, which had also suffered damage. The incident adversely affected other competitors as well, including the #8 Tower Motorsport LMP2 car piloted by Sebastien Bourdais.
The collision involved several GT cars, with notable casualties including the #48 Paul Miller BMW, the #77 AO Racing Porsche, and the #9 Pfaff Lamborghini. At the time of the crash, the #48 Paul Miller BMW M4 GT3 EVO, driven by Max Hesse, was leading the GTD Pro class.
Regrettably, the #40 Cadillac LMDh, which played a role in the incident, was subsequently lifted onto a flatbed truck, signaling its withdrawal from the race. Prior to the crash, the car was performing strongly, with Kamui Kobayashi at the wheel and having just taken the lead in the GTP class shortly after the sixth hour.
Despite the setback of the #40 entry, Cadillac still has potential as two other cars remain competitive, occupying first and third places in the standings, with Jack Aitken leading the charge in the #31 Action Express Racing car.
