Calgary Police have renewed their appeal for assistance in finding those responsible for the tragic assault that led to the death of a woman in northeast Calgary on December 9, 2024.
The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Jelisa Maschki, a resident of Calgary. She was discovered shortly after 4 a.m. in critical condition and was transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, law enforcement announced her passing on Wednesday, following the attack.
Authorities responded to reports of a woman in distress after a passerby found Maschki along the Nose Creek Pathway, located near 11 Street and 32 Avenue N.E. Once on the scene, officers determined that she had suffered a severe assault, prompting the involvement of the Calgary police homicide unit to conduct a thorough investigation.
Evidence Search Continues
As part of their investigation, officers released a CCTV image of Maschki taken the day before the incident, hoping to connect with anyone who may have seen her or interacted with her in the hours leading to the assault. Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson from the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit emphasized the ongoing need for information: “We still have many questions surrounding Jelisa’s activity leading up to her discovery.”
Additionally, authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy scheduled for Thursday, which is expected to provide more clarity regarding the injuries Maschki sustained and the circumstances surrounding her demise.
In the meantime, Calgary Police are urging anyone who observed any suspicious behavior in the area during the early hours of that Monday morning or who had contact with the victim to come forward. Individuals can reach out to the police at 403-266-1234 with any relevant information.
