Calgary police responded late Monday night to reports of possible human remains found on an island in the Bow River, close to Edworthy Park in southwest Calgary.
The remains were reportedly spotted by individuals walking in the area, who promptly alerted local authorities.
Upon preliminary investigation, the remains were determined to likely be human, prompting the involvement of the Calgary police homicide unit for further examination.
In addition, the Calgary Police HAWCS helicopter was dispatched to the scene, employing its spotlight to illuminate the area for investigators as they conducted their work late into the evening.

The medical examiner’s office was also engaged to assist in identifying the deceased and elucidating the cause of death.
This incident marks the second occasion within a week that Calgary police have been tasked with investigating the discovery of human remains. Earlier, on Friday, officers were called to the Spruce Cliff area after an individual walking in a wooded section encountered what they believed to be human remains.
Following analysis by the medical examiner’s office, it was determined that the remains belonged to a male over the age of 25 and had been present in the area “for some time.” A forensic anthropologist has been requested for further assessment.
As investigations continue, the community remains attentive to updates from authorities regarding these unsettling discoveries.
