Carrie Underwood Shines at Presidential Inauguration
During Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on January 20, Carrie Underwood showcased her impressive talent as a country music icon, overcoming unexpected challenges to deliver a captivating performance.
Following a brief and disconcerting two-minute technical delay, the 41-year-old American Idol alum stepped up, singing “America the Beautiful” a cappella at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. This occurred just as Trump was taking the oath of office, marking the commencement of his presidency.
Encouraging the audience to join in, Underwood said, “You know the words, help me out here,” before confidently singing the patriotic hymn solo.
Initially, the performance was expected to involve the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club, with Underwood set to perform right before the swearing-in ceremony.
Fans of the country star quickly recognized her professionalism, taking to social media to celebrate her stunning rendition. One user on X remarked, “Now that is a flex. Imagine being so talented that when technology fails, you just go, ‘Fine, I’ll do it live!’ and crush it a cappella in front of thousands,” further complimenting Underwood’s unfiltered talents.
Another enthusiastic viewer stated, “Carrie Underwood don’t need no band! That was bada–!” showcasing the admiration from the audience.
A third commentator pointed out her grace under pressure: “This is what a professional looks like. With grace, when the military band audio failed, she sang her song with the audience. All American and perfect.”
Additionally, one fan posited, “I think the music cutting out for Carrie Underwood actually made that singing of America the Beautiful better. No matter what, you can’t accuse her of lip syncing,” highlighting the authenticity of her performance.
Before the inauguration, Underwood expressed her appreciation and pride for the opportunity. She shared, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
Underwood was among several notable performers at the inauguration, which also included artists such as Lee Greenwood, the Village People, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, Rascal Flatts, Kid Rock, Gavin DeGraw, Jason Aldean, and Parker McCollum.
