Casa Montelongo: A Serene Getaway in Fuerteventura
Casa Montelongo is situated in the charming town of La Oliva, located in the northern region of Fuerteventura within Spain’s breathtaking Canary Islands, positioned off the African coast. Boasting two one-bedroom suites, the hotel features full-service kitchens, dining areas, and spacious living rooms. Visitors can enjoy a shared 36-foot pool, a lovely patio, and a serene garden. The dedicated hotel staff is available to assist guests in organizing various island activities, such as off-site dining, stargazing, and a range of water sports.
The picturesque island of Fuerteventura, known for its diverse topography and stunning black and golden sand beaches, is home to the design-oriented adults-only hotel, Casa Montelongo, which opened its doors last year.
The hotel, located in the quaint La Oliva, offers a cozy ambiance with just two residential suites, a 36-foot-long shared pool, lush gardens, and a comfortable patio. Renowned architect Néstor Pérez Batista, originally from Spain and based in Berlin, was commissioned to transform a historic 19th-century family home into this eco-friendly haven powered entirely by solar energy.
Casa Montelongo is celebrated for its minimalist design, characterized by an almost entirely white color palette adorned with vibrant artworks and furnishings. Pérez Batista has skillfully integrated local materials, such as stone, wood, clay, lime, and glass, paying homage to the island’s rich heritage.
The hotel offers two unique accommodations—one occupying the former theatre’s footprint and the other, the old family residence. Guests have the option to rent these suites individually or together. Each suite provides open-plan kitchens with dining spaces, spacious living areas, and ample bedroom facilities. Both units cater to two guests and are equipped with premium amenities, including rain showers, Aesop toiletries, dressing rooms, and luxurious Cometa cotton bedding. To enhance the guests’ experience, Casa Montelongo also offers a complimentary daily breakfast made with seasonal ingredients sourced from local producers.
One of the hotel’s standout features is its impressive collection of contemporary art. Highlighted is a striking sculpture by Tenerife artist Óscar Latuag, which resides on the far wall of the pool area. This abstract piece pays tribute to the island’s natural diversity by drawing inspiration from local flora, including lichen, prickly pear, and agave leaves. As the sun traverses the sky, the sculpture casts shifting shadows and silhouettes throughout the day.
The personalized experience offered by Casa Montelongo extends beyond its physical premises. The staff can assist guests with many services, including laundry, transportation coordination, restaurant bookings, and a variety of activities such as in-room massages, cultural excursions, biking or hiking routes, surfing lessons, boat outings, and opportunities to explore the nearby islands of Lobos and Lanzarote.
For those interested in experiencing this tranquil escape, nightly rates at the hotel begin at $262.
