The Beatles Biopic Project: A Cinematic Journey Unfolds

Expectations are high for the upcoming film series centered on one of the most influential bands in music history. At this year’s CinemaCon, Tom Rothman, the head of Sony, unveiled a stunning announcement as Sam Mendes revealed the cast for his extraordinary four-film project portraying The Beatles.

The chosen actors are Paul Mescal portraying Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Harris Dickinson stepping into the role of John Lennon. This ambitious undertaking aims to capture the essence of the iconic band through multiple narratives that reflect the distinct perspectives of its members.

All four films are slated for release concurrently in April 2028, marking a unique approach in the film industry. Mendes humorously suggested that Rothman described these films as “the first bingeable theatrical experience,” reinforcing the innovative spirit behind the project.

“For years, I’ve wanted to make a film about The Beatles, but the enormity of their story felt impossible to compress into a single film. A TV series also didn’t seem to do it justice,” Mendes explained to an audience of theater operators and journalists during the presentation. “There was a pressing need to convey the narrative of these four remarkable individuals to a new audience. Many think they know The Beatles’ story, but I assure you, there’s much more to uncover. We’ve discovered a compelling way to tell it.”

According to Mendes, the series titled The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event will weave together interlocking tales while embracing varied cinematic styles. “Each film delves deeply into one member’s perspective, allowing for individual stories that connect in intriguing ways,” he noted. “This format may provide a more profound understanding of who they were. Collectively, these films will celebrate the greatest band in history.”

Mendes, acclaimed for winning the Best Director Oscar for his debut, American Beauty, and earning a subsequent nomination for 1917, has now partnered with a remarkable cast. Both Mescal and Keoghan have also received Oscar nominations for their performances in Aftersun and The Banshees of Inisherin, respectively.

The casting choices have been speculated on for some time, with each actor previously linked to the roles. Notably, Ringo Starr expressed his enthusiastic support for Keoghan’s casting last November, stating, “I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.”

As anticipation builds for this unique cinematic portrayal of The Beatles, fans and audiences alike are eager to see how Mendes brings this legendary story to life across four films that promise to engage both longtime followers and new generations.
