Mayfair Witches has officially received a renewal for its third season, as announced by AMC during its recent upfront presentation in New York City on April 9. This new season will see significant shifts, including a fresh setting in Salem, Massachusetts, along with the entry of a new co-showrunner who has a strong background with acclaimed series such as Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
The series boasts a talented cast, featuring Alexandra Daddario, Harry Hamlin, Tongayi Chirisa, and Alyssa Jirrels, among others. Here’s what we know about the upcoming season.
Is Mayfair Witches renewed?
On April 9, AMC Networks confirmed the renewal of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches for its third season, which will relocate the story to the historically rich town of Salem. The first two seasons were predominantly set in New Orleans, a city that plays a pivotal role in many of Anne Rice’s narratives and the broader Immortal Universe.
What happens in Mayfair Witches Season 3?
Thomas Schnauz, an Emmy-winning producer and writer known for his work on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is joining Esta Spalding as co-showrunner for Season 3. This upcoming season aims to explore the intricate mythology of witchcraft by introducing new “spellbound” families and incorporating elements from Salem’s notorious history of witch trials and folklore. Spalding describes the forthcoming season as “a contemporary twist on the Salem story.”
The conclusion of Season 2 aired on March 2 on AMC and AMC+, with the network highlighting that Mayfair Witches continues to rank as one of the top-performing series on AMC+ in terms of viewer engagement and acquisition.
Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, expressed enthusiasm about the series’ direction, stating, “The drama and complexities of the Mayfair family continue to be an intriguing and enchanting source of story, and expanding that story against the backdrop of Salem, a historical haven of witchcraft, is an exciting next chapter for this series and our larger Anne Rice Immortal Universe.” He added that having Tom Schnauz onboard alongside Esta Spalding and the cast sets the stage for an expanded exploration of witchery and family secrets.
Esta Spalding shared her excitement about Schnauz’s involvement in the new season, noting, “A contemporary twist on the Salem story, it promises to be our most delicious yet.”
The development of the third season is already underway, with Schnauz expressing his eagerness: “I’m incredibly excited to reunite with both AMC and Mark Johnson on Mayfair Witches. The work I’ve done so far with Esta Spalding on Season 3 has been fantastic and fun, and we’re hoping that translates to the screen for fans and new viewers of the show.”
Additionally, the renewal announcement hinted at exciting news for the Immortal Universe, revealing that the next series, originally titled The Talamasca, will now be called The Talamasca: The Secret Order, set to debut this fall.
