In a recent episode of The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon teamed up with Ed Sheeran for a segment dubbed “Subway Busking.” The duo took a playful approach to their performance, donning emo-inspired wigs, sunglasses, and matching black attire as they entered the 50th Street subway station, surprising commuters under the moniker Frat Poison.
Sheeran opened the surprise performance with a captivating acoustic rendition of Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club,” quickly attracting a crowd of onlookers. Following their reveal, the pair showcased Sheeran’s latest single, “Azizam,” with Fallon contributing on tambourine and providing backing vocals.
Released last week, “Azizam” marks the first official single from Sheeran’s upcoming album, Play. This track is a collaboration with producer Ilya Salmanzadeh, who inspired Sheeran to tap into his Persian roots in his music.
Sheeran expressed his excitement about this cultural exploration on Instagram, stating, “I love learning about music and different cultures the more I travel and connect with people. It was like opening a door to a completely new and exciting world. I loved how a lot of rhythms, scales, melodies and instruments were different but similar to the Irish trad music I had grown up with. It was showing to me music connects us all, and really is a universal language. This whole album is about being playful, explorative, and celebratory.”
