Shaggy and Sting have reunited, delivering their newest collaborative effort with the single “Til a Mawnin.” This vibrant track pays tribute to the reggae genre and showcases the duo’s synergy in a live performance on The Tonight Show, where they were accompanied by a full band and backup singers.
The single, released last month, is a creative collaboration written by Shaggy, Sting, and Henry “Junjo” Lawes. It draws inspiration from Lawes’ foundational 1981 riddim, “I’m Not Getting Crazy,” a musical backdrop that has influenced numerous iconic reggae songs. The production credits go to Shaggy himself and Shane Hoosong, adding a contemporary spin to the classic reggae sound.
This latest release continues the fruitful partnership between Shaggy and Sting, who previously collaborated on the Grammy-winning album 44/876 in 2018. The album achieved critical acclaim, taking home the award for Best Reggae Album at the 61st Grammy Awards. Reflecting on their unexpected collaboration, Sting remarked, “I think surprise is always the most important element in all music. You don’t want to just go with people’s expectations. You always want to surprise them. I listen to music expecting a surprise within eight measures.”
