Cate Blanchett has recently expressed her serious intentions about stepping away from acting, a profession she has excelled in for over thirty years. In an interview with “The Standard,” the highly acclaimed actress, who has earned two Oscars, revealed that her family often responds skeptically whenever she mentions retiring from her film career.
Blanchett asserts that she is genuinely contemplating this change, citing a desire to pursue other passions and interests in her life. Despite her immense success, she has often felt uncomfortable in the spotlight. She mentions that during interviews, her words are often emphasized in a way that doesn’t accurately reflect her personality, referring to quotes being highlighted as “really loud.” She emphasizes, “I’m not that person,” and elaborates on her struggle to adjust to the constant attention that comes with fame.
The actress also identifies herself as someone who operates on the “periphery,” expressing surprise when she feels a sense of belonging in different contexts. She explains, “I’ve spent a lifetime getting comfortable with the feeling of being uncomfortable,” highlighting her ongoing internal journey amidst her prominent public persona.
Having made her theatrical debut in 1992 with David Mamet’s “Oleanna,” Blanchett’s career has spanned various forms of media, from theatre to television, and ultimately to film. She transitioned to the big screen with her first major role in “Paradise Road” in 1997.
Throughout her career, she has appeared in a wide array of critically acclaimed films such as “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (1999), “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” (2001), “The Aviator” (2004), and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (2008). Her most recent project is “Black Bag,” slated for release in 2025.
In addition to her successful film career, Blanchett has garnered significant recognition, including two Academy Awards: one for Best Supporting Actress in “The Aviator” (2005) and the other for Best Actress in “Blue Jasmine” (2013). Her contributions to the film industry have firmly established her as one of Hollywood’s most respected figures.
