Tragic Accident Claims Life of Wisconsin Father
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Recent updates have emerged regarding the unfortunate passing of a father from Wisconsin, who went missing while traveling for work and was later discovered deceased.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed on Thursday that Ben Oberto’s demise was the result of drowning, which occurred after his vehicle was involved in an accident and subsequently submerged in water off Interstate 90 near Rosemont. His death has been classified as accidental.
Oberto was last seen on the evening of November 13, following a work dinner at 1776 Restaurant located in Crystal Lake. Surveillance footage revealed him leaving the parking lot in his 2019 Subaru Impreza shortly after 9 PM.
Approximately 30 minutes later, his I-PASS system indicated he passed through a toll booth north of Elgin, and his phone was last tracked near Rosemont.
On November 15, two days after his disappearance, Illinois State Police discovered Oberto’s overturned car in a creek near the I-90 eastbound ramp leading to I-294 northbound, in proximity to O’Hare International Airport.
Divers from the Rosemont Police Department successfully located and recovered Oberto’s body from within the vehicle.
Authorities suspect that the accident involved Oberto losing control of his car while navigating the ramp, resulting in this tragic incident.
Ben Oberto, who worked as a wine sales representative for Massanois LLC, leaves behind his wife, Laura Leatherberry, and their two young children, Collette and Augie. The family is in mourning, grappling with the sudden loss of their loved one.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing, but officials have indicated there are currently no signs of foul play.
