There are increasing reports indicating that both second-generation Chromecasts and Chromecast Audio devices are experiencing functionality issues. Users have noted that these devices are displaying an error message suggesting that they might no longer be receiving support. Sources including 9to5Google have highlighted this growing concern among users.
In various posts on Reddit, individuals shared screenshots of the error message that reads, “Untrusted device,” which is followed by an explanation that the device “couldn’t be verified. This could be caused by outdated device firmware.” Such messages have sparked worries that Google might be phasing out these streaming devices, which are now considered somewhat outdated.
However, it’s important to note, as 9to5Google reports, that Google has not made any official announcement regarding the discontinuation of these models, unlike the earlier Chromecast which was declared obsolete in 2023. A member of the Chromecast user community has mentioned reaching out to Google support, who responded by acknowledging awareness of the issue and indicated that a resolution is upcoming. As of now, Google has yet to provide further comments on this situation.
