One of the most overlooked figures in action cinema is poised to make waves in a new horror-action venture. Chad Michael Collins, a distinguished name in the genre, has been at the forefront of the Sniper series since 2011, and he will headline the upcoming film Recoil. This project melds elements of action thrill and supernatural horror, promising to be a noteworthy addition to both genres.
Directed by Nick Robertson, known for The Pack, Recoil will see Michael Robertson and Chris Wheeldon take on producer roles, drawing from their previous success in survival thrillers like Black Water, which received a favorable 80% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. According to Deadline, Recoil will unfold in a “harsh desert setting” and is characterized as “a relentless war thriller intertwined with a mind-bending supernatural twist that will captivate viewers from the outset.”
Alliance Media Partners and Prodigy Movies are set to present Recoil at the upcoming Cannes Market. The official synopsis reads:
“Three stranded soldiers. A trapped infantry vehicle. The merciless desert. And a sinister curse that transforms their reality into a nightmarish existence. This is not merely another portrayal of Middle Eastern warfare—it’s war at its most psychological, visceral, and terrifying.”
‘Recoil’ Promises To Be a “Powerful Mix of Action, Suspense, and Horror”
In discussing Recoil, director Nick Robertson expressed, “We’re thrilled for audiences to experience the film’s unrelenting intensity as it marks the first feature highlighting Australia’s role in the global ‘War on Terror’. We look forward to collaborating with AMP towards this vision.” Meanwhile, Alliance Media Partners’ Head of Sales and Acquisitions, Anthony Buckner, referred to the project as “a potent blend of action, suspense, and horror, offering a fresh take on the war genre.”
Chad Michael Collins has become synonymous with the Sniper-Verse, a series that began with the Tom Berenger-led film back in 1993. Following a string of sequels, Collins stepped into the role of Brandon Beckett, the son of Berenger’s character. Making his debut in Sniper: Reloaded in 2011, Collins has been instrumental in maintaining the Sniper-Verse as a hidden gem within action cinema, leading films such as Sniper: Legacy (2014), Sniper: Ghost Shooter (2016), Sniper: Ultimate Kill (2017), Sniper: Assassin’s End (2020), Sniper: Rogue Mission (2022), and Sniper: G.R.I.T. – Global Response & Intelligence Team (2023).
The latest installment, Sniper: The Last Stand, is set to debut on Netflix on January 21, 2025. Contrary to its title, the franchise will continue, with Collins recently confirming the next installment is already in the works.
“Hi everyone, Chad here, also known as Brandon Beckett, greeting you from the set of the next Sniper-Verse film. For those who have watched Sniper: The Last Stand, or if you haven’t yet, make sure to rent or buy it where all movies are available. If you have seen it, rest assured that another film is in production. We’re about halfway through shooting and are glad to be back with some familiar faces, alongside new cast members as we continue our journey in the next chapter—more details will follow soon.”
