The Merry Gentlemen: A Festive Film with Dance at Its Core

Britt Robertson is teaming up with Chad Michael Murray to bring holiday cheer in their upcoming film, The Merry Gentlemen.

The film, which is set to premiere on Netflix, features a storyline centered around a former professional dancer, played by Robertson, who organizes a Christmas-themed show featuring male performers. This endeavor aims to revive her parents’ struggling performance venue in a small town.

Directed by Peter Sullivan and penned by Marla Sokoloff, who takes on a role in the film as well, the cast includes notable actors such as Beth Broderick, Michael Gross, Maxwell Caulfield, Hector David Jr., Colt Prattes, and Marc Anthony Samuel.

Sokoloff describes the film as a refreshing twist on traditional holiday movies, expressing that it offers a unique and enjoyable experience suitable for a wide audience. She highlights the chemistry between Robertson and Murray, stating, “Chad and Britt are such a magical combo.”

Robertson, who portrays Ashley, shares insights into the intensive choreography that underpins the film’s dance sequences. She notes that the dance element is integral to the story and hopes viewers will appreciate the effort behind it. “I love tap dancing and the sound of tap, and the boys are pretty cute too,” Robertson adds, emphasizing the film’s visual appeal with its energetic performances.

Murray, on the other hand, plays the character Luke and admits he had limited dance training before taking on this role. He shares his philosophy on tackling challenges, stating that the prospect of stretching his abilities is what attracted him to the project. “When I see something and it scares the crap out of me, I say, ‘Let’s see what we can do,’” he reflects on his initial apprehension about dancing.

He describes the physical transformation he underwent for the role as intense, but conveys a sense of fulfillment in rising to the challenge.

Robertson fondly recalls her first impression of Murray during a dance rehearsal, noting his commitment to the craft. She appreciated seeing him fully engaged in the rehearsal process, which left a positive impression on her regarding his dedication as an actor.

Sokoloff also remarks on the fun atmosphere on set, highlighting the impressive teamwork and camaraderie, reinforcing that the film’s production was as enjoyable as it is to watch.

The Merry Gentlemen is slated for release on November 20 on Netflix, and promises to bring both humor and heart to the holiday season.
