Roan announced earlier this week that her latest single, her first since the 2024 release of “Good Luck, Babe!,” will be available on March 13. This new release draws heavily from her lifelong affinity for country music.
“I have a deep appreciation for country music,” she expressed on Instagram. “I remember listening to it on school bus rides and at various social gatherings, from bonfires to karaoke bars.”
“Many folks have queried whether this implies a country album is on the way,” the singer from Missouri stated. “My response is… not at the moment; I’m simply creating tunes that bring me joy and fun. ‘The Giver’ is my interpretation of country, and I’m here to embrace it with a bit of flair and humor.”
On March 14, Roan will also feature on the episode of Apple Music’s Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen, with E! News sharing an exclusive preview where she delves into her passion for the country music genre.
“I thought it would be humorous to write a country song,” she remarked. “It’s playful and entertaining.”
“Growing up in southwest Missouri, I was immersed in Christian and country music, but eventually discovered Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro,’ which opened my eyes to other genres. Country music has remained a nostalgic part of my life, and I love driving through West Hollywood listening to Jason Aldean or Alan Jackson’s ‘Chattahoochee.’”
Roan credits her inspiration for this country venture to the duo Big & Rich and their renowned 2004 hit “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy).”
“I wanted to replicate that feeling of joy on stage,” she reflected. “I envisioned how I wanted to perform and decided to write my own version of that energy.”
Continuing to allay fans’ concerns about her musical direction, Roan affirmed that her pop music will continue to thrive alongside her new country influences. “This is purely a fun project for me,” she continued. “I’m not changing genres.”
The upcoming release of “The Giver” marks Roan’s first project since “Good Luck, Babe!” was released in April of the previous year. This earlier single reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in September and remains the only song she has launched since her breakout album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess in 2023.
Roan has been teasing her new track for weeks, introducing various personas including a lawyer, a plumber, a private investigator, and now a construction worker, all embodying the “get the job done” spirit highlighted in the song’s lyrics. These alter egos are visible on billboards across the nation as well as on Roan’s Instagram feed.
Each character corresponds to exclusive versions of the 7-inch vinyl for “The Giver,” which fans can purchase through Roan’s website.
