Charlamagne tha God Comments on AOC’s Decision Regarding Trump’s Inauguration
Charlamagne tha God expressed his anticipation of missing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez amid discussions of President Donald Trump’s potential mass deportations, humorously suggesting that her refusal to attend Trump’s inauguration might result in her being “sent to Nicaragua.”
During a guest-hosting segment on “The Daily Show,” Charlamagne commented on the energy he appreciated in Ocasio-Cortez’s defiance against supporting Trump’s return to the White House. This remark quickly transitioned to a TikTok video featuring the congresswoman herself.
In the TikTok clip, Ocasio-Cortez firmly addressed the media’s inquiries about her attendance at Trump’s inauguration, stating, “I do not celebrate rapists. So no, I am not going to the inauguration tomorrow.” Her comment referenced the civil case in which Trump was found liable for sexual battery and defamation against columnist E. Jean Carroll.
“See? Yeah, that’s right. That’s right,” Charlamagne remarked as the show returned to him. “That right there, that is backbone. That is principles. Man, I am going to miss AOC when she is deported to Nicaragua.” It is important to note that Ocasio-Cortez was born in the Bronx and has Puerto Rican heritage.
Charlamagne’s humorous take was part of a broader conversation surrounding the attendance of various political figures at Trump’s inauguration, especially considering his plans for mass deportations as he assumes office again.
As the days progressed following Trump’s inauguration announcement, the media highlighted a newfound cordiality between Democrats and Republicans at events like former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, drawing attention to the previously hostile rhetoric directed at Trump during his presidency.
“What about the Democratic politicians who spent four years calling Trump the new Adolf Hitler, and then started doing stuff like this?” Charlamagne asked, prompting a series of images showing former President Joe Biden warmly greeting Trump as well as a viral moment capturing Trump and former President Barack Obama sharing a laugh at Carter’s funeral.
“I am sorry, if you tell us someone is Hitler, you at least have to act like he is Hitler,” he quipped, questioning the authenticity of these political gestures.
