Charli XCX made a spectacular statement at the BRIT Awards held on March 1, 2024, claiming some of the event’s most prestigious accolades, including the highly sought-after album of the year award for her project Brat.

In total, she took home four awards: song of the year, dance act, artist of the year, and album of the year. Additionally, Charli was honored with the songwriter of the year award, while A.G. Cook, the executive producer of Brat, received the producer of the year award.

During her acceptance speech for the album of the year, Charli reflected on her journey, stating: “I used to tell myself these accolades weren’t important. That was easier to believe because I wasn’t nominated for anything until last year. As someone who often felt like an outsider in the British music scene, this recognition for my album means a lot, especially since I haven’t had to compromise my vision.”

The album Brat has emerged as a defining work of 2024, securing the top position on the U.K. Official Album Charts and reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200. It was even designated the album of the year by the staff of Billboard.

Hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall in his fifth consecutive year, the awards ceremony took place at The O2 Arena in London, drawing a star-studded audience.

Another highlight of the evening was Chappell Roan, who won international artist and international song, triumphing over notable competitors such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Beyoncé.

Sabrina Carpenter started the night on a high note with a vibrant medley performance of her tracks “Espresso” and “Bed Chem,” and she was later awarded the honorary global success award.

Sam Fender had a notable evening as well, winning the rock/alternative act award and delivering a live performance of his title track from People Watching. His latest album recently debuted at No. 1 with an impressive opening week, surpassing 100,000 units sold, marking the most significant entry for a British artist in three years.

Ezra Collective received the group of the year award, using their platform to highlight the importance of youth clubs and the musical opportunities they provide. Myles Smith, who accepted the BRITs Rising Star award, urged the UK government to take further action to support grassroots music venues during his speech.

The Last Dinner Party, a baroque-pop ensemble, performed their song “Nothing Matters” and was honored as best new artist, echoing Smith’s call to elevate the visibility of small venues in the music industry.

RAYE won the award for best R&B act, while Stormzy acknowledged his fellow nominee Central Cee during his acceptance for best hip-hop/grime/rap.

Performances graced the stage from artists like Carpenter, Teddy Swims, Ezra Collective, Fender, The Last Dinner Party, JADE, and Lola Young, showcasing a wide range of musical talent.

Earlier in December, Myles Smith was named the recipient of the 2025 BRIT Rising Star award, a recognition aimed at spotlighting upcoming British artists poised to make significant impacts in the coming year. He performed his hit “Stargazing” during the ceremony.

Notably absent from the winner’s circle was Dua Lipa, who failed to secure any awards despite four nominations. Similarly, The Cure and Central Cee also left without wins, having received three nominations each.

The nominees for the awards and their winners were determined by the BRIT Awards Voting Academy, comprised of musicians and industry professionals. In contrast, the public determined the winners of genre categories through a unique voting initiative conducted via WhatsApp.
