Stereolab is making waves once again with the release of their new single, “Melodie Is a Wound,” hinting at their upcoming album, Instant Holograms on Metal Film, their first in 15 years. You can listen to the track below.
The much-anticipated album is set to be released on May 23 through Stereolab’s own label, Duophonic UHF Disks, alongside Warp Records. The album features 13 tracks, which include the previously unveiled single “Aerial Troubles,” distributed discreetly as a limited 7″ vinyl to select fans prior to the official announcement. In addition to original members Tim Gane and Laetitia Sadier, the album showcases the talents of Cooper Crain, Rob Frye, Ben LaMar Gay, Ric Elsworth, Holger Zapf, Marie Merlet, and Molly Read.
Looking ahead, Stereolab is gearing up for an extensive international tour. The schedule spans several months and will bring them to various cities across North America and Europe, including several festival appearances, continuing through the end of the year.
The band’s last studio album, Not Music, was released in 2010. Since then, Stereolab has reissued several of their older works, with the latest being Pulse of the Early Brain, which saw a re-release in 2022.
