Netflix has announced through a press release that the acclaimed documentary series Chef’s Table, created by David Gelb, will return for three additional seasons starting this fall. The most recent season, which focused on pizza artisans from the United States, Italy, and Japan, concluded in 2022.
Chef’s Table: Noodles is set to premiere on October 2 and will delve into the various aspects of noodle cuisine, similar to past seasons that focused on specific culinary themes such as pastry, barbecue, and pizza. Featured chefs will include Evan Funke, renowned for his handmade pasta in Los Angeles; Guirong Wei, who specializes in Shaanxi cuisine in London; Peppe Guida, the Michelin-starred chef from Italy’s Antica Osteria Nonna Rosa; and Nite Yun, a champion of Cambodian food in Oakland.
Following this, Chef’s Table: Volume 7 will launch on November 27, just in time for Thanksgiving. This season will return to the series’ roots, highlighting a diverse array of culinary talents. Chefs on this volume will include Nok Suntaranon of Philadelphia’s Kalaya; Kwame Onwuachi from New York City’s Tatiana; Ángel León of Spain’s Aponiente, based in El Puerto de Santa María; and the duo Norma Listman and Saqib Keval from Mexico City’s Masala y Maíz and Mari Gold.
Chef’s Table first premiered on April 26, 2015, following Gelb’s previous work, Jiro Dreams of Sushi. The series quickly gained a reputation for its artistic visuals and in-depth exploration of the culinary world’s elite, receiving critical acclaim and inspiring similar productions. It has been recognized as one of the most beautifully crafted food shows in existence. However, the series has also been scrutinized for its lack of representation concerning women and people of color, prompting recent efforts to diversify its storytelling.
As the series approaches its 10-year anniversary in 2025, Netflix has revealed plans for Chef’s Table: Legends, which aims to feature influential figures in the food industry who have made significant contributions beyond geographical confines. Although the cast list has yet to be announced, the series has previously showcased a remarkable lineup of iconic chefs, such as Massimo Bottura and Alain Passard. It will be intriguing to see how the term “legends” is interpreted in this new installment.
Fans can expect an exciting array of content from Chef’s Table. The recently released trailer hints at the series’ signature use of dramatic slow-motion visuals and an emotive soundtrack that have characterized its unique narrative style.
