Cher Steals the Spotlight at Love Rocks NYC Benefit Concert
Culminating in an evening full of musical talent, Cher made a striking appearance at the Love Rocks NYC benefit concert by channeling Elvis Presley. The iconic artist performed Marc Cohn’s “Walking in Memphis,” captivating the audience with her energetic tribute.
Sporting a classic Elvis pompadour wig and a vibrant pink shirt with an extravagant collar, Cher showcased her vocal prowess during her three-song set, which also featured hits like “(This Is) A Song for the Lonely” and her chart-topping anthem “Believe.” Cher’s connection to “Walking in Memphis” runs deep, having recorded her own version for the 1995 album It’s a Man’s World, and she has repeatedly performed this song while dressed as the rock legend, notably in the music video accompanying it.
The ninth annual Love Rocks NYC concert took place on March 6 at the Beacon Theatre, drawing a crowd eager to support God’s Love We Deliver, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing medically tailored meals and nutritional support to underserved communities.
Highlights of the evening included a dynamic performance from Alicia Keys, who delivered a soulful, Fugees-inspired version of “Killing Me Softly With His Song” as a tribute to the legendary singer-songwriter Roberta Flack. Beck energized the crowd with a powerful combination of “Loser” and a cover of Prince’s classic “1999.” Notably, Trey Anastasio of Phish joined forces with Struts vocalist Luke Spiller for a rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Good Times, Bad Times,” with actor Bill Murray joining in on tambourine, adding an unexpected twist to the performance.
The lineup also featured comedic talents such as Tracy Morgan, Susie Essman, and Amy Schumer, each bringing laughter to the audience. Moreover, Murray took to the stage solo to deliver a rendition of Stephen Stills’ “Love the One You’re With.” Other musical contributions came from notable artists like Michael McDonald, the War and Treaty, Mavis Staples, Peter Frampton, Dave Stewart, and Jesse Malin—a New York singer-songwriter who recently made a comeback following a rare spinal stroke in late 2023.
The concert culminated in an all-star encore, bringing many performers back on stage to collectively sing Stevie Wonder’s timeless classic “Higher Ground,” leaving the audience with a sense of joy and unity.
