China has issued a stern warning to the United States, claiming that the recent approval of $571 million in defense aid to Taiwan constitutes “dangerous moves.” This funding, authorized by President Biden on Saturday, adds to an already complex security situation in the Taiwan Strait.

In conjunction with the $571 million, the U.S. Department of Defense also disclosed a separate approval of $295 million for military sales to the self-governing island of Taiwan. These actions are part of the U.S. strategy to bolster Taiwan’s defense capabilities and potentially deter any aggressive maneuvers by China.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has urged the U.S. to halt its military support for Taiwan, labeling it as an action that undermines peace and stability in the region, according to a report by The Associated Press.

President Biden’s approval of the $571 million in military assistance includes not just material support but also military education and training aimed at enhancing Taiwan’s defensive posture. This sum comes in the wake of an earlier allocation of $567 million for similar initiatives in September, reflecting sustained U.S. commitment to Taiwan’s security.

The $295 million in military sales mostly comprises approximately $265 million earmarked for about 300 tactical radio systems, along with $30 million for 16 gun mounts. Taiwan’s foreign ministry expressed gratitude through a post on X, affirming that the two recent sales signify the U.S. government’s dedication to supporting Taiwan’s defense.

CHINESE MILITARY MAKES MASSIVE DEPLOYMENT AROUND TAIWAN TO SEND ‘VERY SIMPLE’ MESSAGE

President Lai’s recent activities coincide with the U.S. government’s potential approval of a $2 billion arms package for Taiwan. This package may include advanced air defense systems, such as the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS), and associated radar technologies, which were successfully utilized in military operations in Ukraine. The entire initiative is valued at up to $1.16 billion, highlighting the U.S. commitment to strengthening Taiwan’s military capabilities.

The Chinese government maintains its stance on unifying Taiwan with the mainland, even if it requires military intervention. Chinese military forces frequently conduct operations in the vicinity of Taiwan, signaling their intentions to assert control over the area.

The United States has consistently demonstrated its support for Taiwan through military transactions, operational commitments, and diplomatic outreach, underscoring its strategic alliance with the island.
