Chipotle Kicks Off 2025 with Global Challenge for Lifestyle Bowls
As the new year begins, Chipotle Mexican Grill is marking the occasion with an exciting initiative aimed at promoting fitness and community engagement. Starting now, the popular fast-casual dining brand is giving away its Lifestyle Bowls throughout the year, but there’s a catch — participants will need to run, bike, or walk to earn their rewards.
On Thursday, Chipotle announced its renewed partnership with Strava, the well-known fitness tracking platform, to launch the inaugural international Strava segment challenge. This unique competition will not only allow participants to vie for free Lifestyle Bowls for an entire year but also offer the chance for an entire city to win free Chipotle food. For the 2025 edition, the challenge is expanding to include more cities around the globe, aiming to engage a wider audience.
“Last year, we discovered the incredible lengths our fans will go to for a chance at free Chipotle. Participants collectively logged over 9.25 million miles on ‘Chipotle segments,’ which is comparable to circling the Earth more than 370 times,” stated Chris Brandt, Chipotle’s chief brand officer. “Given the enthusiasm exhibited during last year’s competition with Strava, we decided to broaden participation and elevate the challenge.”
The competition will incorporate 25 cities, specifically those that demonstrate the highest consumption of Chipotle in North America and Europe. Notable cities like New York City, London, Paris, and Toronto are among those included in the challenge (for the complete list of participating cities, visit chipotle.com/city-challenge).
Understanding the Challenge
Chipotle and Strava have devised 25 designated “Chipotle segments,” comprising specific roadways and trails originally charted by the Strava user community. From now until January 31, participants can compete against one another on these mapped segments, aiming for the fastest times and striving for Local Legend Status. This honor goes to the individual who completes the segment the most times; the Local Legend from each city will earn free Lifestyle Bowls for a year.
A notable addition for this year is a collective aspect where cities will compete as teams to see which can collectively accumulate the most mileage on the segment. This progress will be monitored on the “Chipotle x Strava: The City Challenge” heatmap. The city with the most significant total mileage will win a “buy-one-get-one” entrée offer for all its residents (to be utilized on a specified future date).
Encouraging Commitment to New Year’s Goals
In addition to the city competition, Chipotle is aiming to support individuals in maintaining their New Year’s resolutions, particularly around fitness. To confront “Quitters Day” — the second Friday of January, statistically recognized as when most people abandon their resolutions — Chipotle has devised a special challenge.
From now through January 9, anyone can sign up at chipotle.com/lsb-text to join the “Goals, Gym, Guac” text message community. The brand plans to send motivational messages, exclusive content, and opportunities to win free Lifestyle Bowls during the month to those who participate.
“It’s widely acknowledged that having an accountability partner can significantly aid in achieving wellness goals,” remarked Stephanie Perdue, Chipotle’s vice president of brand marketing. “We are providing our guests with a digital community to keep healthy habits engaging on ‘No Quitters Day.’”
