Chris Dobey Secures Players Championship 3 Title in Rosmalen

Chris Dobey has made a remarkable start to the year by winning the Players Championship 3, overcoming Jelle Klaasen with an impressive 8-4 victory in Rosmalen. This achievement comes just a week after Dobey fell short in the final of Players Championship 2 against Gerwyn Price.

The 34-year-old darts player, who previously reached the semi-finals of the World Championship earlier this year, displayed his skills by beginning the match with a remarkable 11-dart leg. Notably, Dobey never trailed in the match against Klaasen, who was participating in his first Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) final since 2015.

On Monday, Dobey showcased his talent by winning three consecutive matches to secure a spot in the final. He confidently advanced past Wessel Nijman and Krzysztof Ratajski, but faced a tough challenge in the semi-finals, where he pulled through with a narrow 7-6 victory over Callan Rydz.

In contrast, Klaasen reached the final after overcoming significant hurdles, first defeating Mickey Mansell in a closely contested match that went to a deciding leg. He then triumphed over former world champion Rob Cross and Welshman Nick Kenny to reach this long-awaited final.

After his victory, Dobey expressed the significance of the win, noting, “This was massive for me.” He added that he had previously won three titles last year, which positioned him at the top of the 2024 Players Championship Order of Merit.

Reflecting on his recent performances, Dobey commented on his previous near-miss against Price: “I probably should have won the final against Gezzy [Gerwyn Price] last week, but I came back today, battled hard and it’s another point proven.” He acknowledged his passion for darts and expressed a desire to continue winning titles.

“I was crying out for this form on the ProTour a couple of years ago,” Dobey stated, and with this latest win, he has moved into the top eight in the world rankings after securing his sixth Players Championship title. “If I can take this form on to the big stage, then who knows? I could be winning these major titles. You have to take your opportunities and make it count. I just love playing darts and I want to keep winning titles now,” he concluded.

Daniel Dubois v Joseph Parker and the Artur Beterbiev v Dmitry Bivol rematch will be live on Saturday, February 22 on Sky Sports Box Office. Book now!
