Ben Whittaker Aims for Redemption Against Liam Cameron
Ben Whittaker is fully focused on his rematch with Liam Cameron, scheduled for this Sunday and airing live on Sky Sports. Their previous encounter ended in a controversial technical draw, leaving many questions unanswered. The two fighters are set to clash again at the bp pulse LIVE arena in Birmingham, with Whittaker’s professional trajectory hanging in the balance.
This upcoming bout marks Whittaker’s first time headlining as a professional boxer. A victory over Cameron could pave the way for him to face significant opponents in the near future. The stakes are high, and Whittaker recognizes the importance of making a powerful statement in the ring.
In a twist of fate, Whittaker and Chris Eubank Jr. find themselves two weight classes apart, much like Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, who will meet on Saturday, April 26, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, also broadcasted live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Reflecting on the dynamics between the divisions, Whittaker humorously speculated, “Weirder things have happened. If he had a couple of Krispy Kremes, I’m sure he’d be at my weight,” when discussing the idea of Eubank Jr. moving down. However, Whittaker remains realistic about the match-up. He noted, “Money does talk. He’s got his path, I’ve got my own path. I really can’t see it happening.”
He continued, “If it was at my weight or a catchweight, I’m the bigger guy, I’m the younger guy, I’m the faster guy, so why would I say no? But at the end of the day, it’s a fantasy fight.” Whittaker acknowledged that such discussions are a natural part of the sport, as they generate buzz and intrigue among fans.
Interestingly, both fighters share a promoter in BOXXER’s Ben Shalom, who expressed keen interest in the potential of an all-British showdown between Whittaker and Eubank Jr. “They’re two big names, for me the two biggest names outside of the heavyweight division,” Shalom stated. He also suggested that Eubank Jr. would eventually move up to super-middleweight to pursue a showdown with Whittaker, hinting at the scale that such a fight could reach.
“They’re both in huge fights, they’re both in career-defining matches in the next couple of weeks. I expect both of them to win, and then we can look forward to some bigger nights,” he added.
Chris Eubank vs Conor Benn will be live on Saturday, April 26, on Sky Sports Box Office. Book now!
