Christian Kist Makes History with Nine-Dart Finish at PDC World Championship
Christian Kist delivered an exciting moment at the PDC World Championship by achieving a remarkable nine-dart finish, but unfortunately fell short in his first-round match against Madars Razma.
The Dutch dart player lit up the crowd at Alexandra Palace by completing the flawless leg in the opening set, securing a £60,000 bonus. Kist made this thrilling achievement by consecutively hitting two 180s, followed by a treble 20, treble 19, and finally, a perfect double 12, igniting cheers from the audience.
This nine-dart finish marked the 15th time such a feat has been recorded in the history of the PDC World Championship, and notably, it was the first since the dramatic final in 2023, where Michael Smith executed the same in a leg that saw Michael van Gerwen narrowly miss his own attempt.
After Kist’s electrifying start, the match took a turn as Razma capitalized on a breakdown in Kist’s momentum. The Latvian dart player broke Kist’s throw in the fourth leg of the next set, continuing his streak by breaking again in the third leg of the following set, establishing a 2-1 lead. The final set saw no further breaks in scoring, allowing Razma to advance despite posting a lower average score (90.65 compared to Kist’s 94.90).
Kist’s journey in the tournament was cut short, reminiscent of last year when he was eliminated by Luke Littler. Despite this setback, the 38-year-old former Lakeside champion from 2012 leaves the event with a more lucrative payout than a typical quarter-finalist, as he is currently ranked No. 102 in the PDC’s order of merit, having earned £19,500 over the past two seasons as a professional player.
In a further display of generosity, title sponsor Paddy Power not only rewarded Kist for his nine-dart finish but also committed to donating £60,000 to Prostate Cancer UK, alongside an additional £60,000 to a lucky fan attending the Wednesday night matches.
