Christopher Meloni Discusses Season Five of “Law & Order: Organized Crime”
Christopher Meloni recently shared insights about the upcoming fifth season of “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” particularly highlighting the much-anticipated reunion between his character, Elliot Stabler, and Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson.
During an interview with “Extra” correspondent Mona Kosar Abdi, Meloni discussed a teaser that revealed Benson rushing to Stabler’s side after he experiences a near-fatal accident. He explained, “She comes because things are in a very tough place for Stabler. She helps him heal and recover. He goes through various experiences like hallucinations or dreams while in a coma, and we incorporated some of those themes into the storyline.”
However, Meloni tempered expectations regarding their relationship, stating, “They don’t get together, but it’s a sweet moment.”
In addition to Benson’s involvement, Meloni shared that Stabler’s brother, Joe, will also appear in this season, addressing lingering plot lines from previous episodes. “We left his storyline hanging in the past season, but we’ll resolve that,” he remarked.
Looking ahead at what fans can expect from “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” Meloni noted, “It’s about Stabler’s efforts to manage organized crime in his own way… He goes undercover, and we see him in a different context.”
Meloni also reflected on his enduring friendship with Hargitay, which dates back to their initial screen test in 1999. Their bond has extended to their families, with Meloni mentioning their recent outing to a Knicks game where their children reconnected after some time apart. “My daughter and Mariska’s son saw each other for the first time in a while, and they’ve started texting again,” he shared.
Additionally, Meloni commended Hargitay for her documentary work regarding her late mother, celebrated actress Jayne Mansfield, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 1967. He praised the project, saying, “She did an amazing job… It’s not just a love letter to her mother, but a heartfelt investigation of the complexities surrounding her life, particularly from someone who didn’t have the chance to know her well.”
Mariska Hargitay was only three years old when her mother died.
Mark your calendars, as “Law & Order: Organized Crime” is set to premiere on April 17 on Peacock.
