Actress Christy Carlson Romano Hospitalized After Shooting Incident
On February 9, 2025, actress Christy Carlson Romano, known for her role in “Even Stevens,” was hospitalized following a serious incident while participating in a clay pigeon shooting event. The mishap occurred as she celebrated her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday.
In a post on Instagram, Romano detailed the shocking experience, stating, “Yesterday was my husband’s birthday and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present. There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face.”
Romano’s husband acted quickly, ensuring her safety and transporting her to the hospital. Romano reported that she sustained injuries in five different areas, noting that one wound was perilously close to her right eye. “One was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye,” she shared.
Medical professionals found that a fragment from the shot remained lodged behind her eye, a situation they deemed too risky for surgical removal at this time. Fortunately, she is currently able to see normally and will be closely monitored by her doctors.
Reflections on the incident filled her statement, expressing a deep sense of gratitude for her life and loved ones. “With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive. I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant,” Romano concluded.
Clay pigeon shooting, the sport in which Romano was participating, involves using a shotgun to shoot at clay targets launched into the air. Each shot releases hundreds of small metal pellets that scatter upon firing, dramatically increasing the risk of accidents if proper safety protocols are not followed.
